Last year’s debating team was very privileged to be invited to Leinster House. The visit was organised by Concern as part of their prize for being finalists in the Concern All Island’s Debating Competition at The Helix in Dublin City University. It was an amazing day. First we got a tour of the building and then we visited the Dáil chamber and the Seanad where we got a special welcome. We met loads of politicians on our tour, including Minister Heather Humphrey. We participated in a workshop on how parliaments work, given by Conor Reale, Parliamentary Education Officer. We were surprised and delighted that the Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghail, organised a meal and a meeting with him and his advisors! We were treated as very distinguished guests! Bhí rogha gach bidh agus togha gach didh againn. We were invited to ask him questions and discuss any matter relating to the future of our country and the future of our world. Questions were asked about the politics of the world, climate change, the Global South and the environment. It surely was a memorable and historic day for Deravoy N.S. and our team represented our school exceptionally well as they did throughout our debating journey. Go mbeirimid beo ar an am seo arís!
