Today, 21st April, is designated as World Curlew Day to remind us that the curlew is at risk of extinction. We are delighted to report that the curlew has been heard on Bragan recently and that as many as 6-7 pairs have been spotted at a location close to where Ms Currie is from in Tyrone.
The curlew is a bird that is dear to the hearts of pupils, past pupils and staff of Deravoy NS. We know how dangerous wildfires can be to this vulnerable species at this time of year, so lighting any gorse or dead vegetation on our local bogland would place these birds and other wildlife in very real danger. Let us all work together and do our best to protect these beautiful birds.
