Ghlac ranganna trí go dtí a sé páirt i dtionscnamh ealaíne Creative Connections. We were privileged to have Margaret Mc Kenna working in the school. Margaret is from Cavan but has strong links with Truagh. She has a great appreciation of landscape and the connections of Gaeilge and stories to the landscape. This is all ‘on our doorstep’ and ‘outside our window’! She explained the importance of trees in our area and discussed the myths and legends associated with Sliabh Beagh, in our locality. She discussed her animation film on ‘The Talking Horse of Cuilcagh.’ The children also explored the historical context of the ancient art of Ogham and the Celtic knots. The children enjoyed the process and and this was very conducive to positive well-being. But it also was cross curricular as it included English, History, Geography Science as well as art.
Some of the evaluations included these quotes.
‘I feel like I’m a real artist.’
It feels very relaxing and calming.
Ár mbuíochas do Margaret and to the Creative Connections team for facilitating our renowned artist. We are of course indebted again to the Shared Island initiative that affords our children to work with professional creative practitioners, bringing creativity and the Arts directly into their learning.
