As part of our Creative Connections Project, funded by the Shared Ireland Funding, we were delighted to have creative practitioner Emma Mowlam working in our school. Emma specialises in Forest School programmes and she explored our broad theme of ‘Outside Our Window’. In our schooI, we have been celebrating our rich heritage and culture and environment…. the trees, the bog, the myths and legends including mythological creatures!
The children in the infant classes heard the story of ‘The Bog Baby’. Then they proceeded to create their own pond using vegetable ink. They also really enjoyed using their imaginations and creativity to make their own bog baby. They used material found on the forest floor like pieces of wood and fruit and twigs. They used modelling clay scented with natural herbs like mint and rosemary and lavender to create the new creatures. Then all the creatures came to life as the children narrated stories around their imaginative characters.
The first and second classes also created their own mythological creatures. The children were totally engaged in shaping up their characters and again used twigs, cones, pieces of bark, cardboard and general left over materials to mount their characters.
Bhí lá íontach ag na páistí uilig.Míle buíochas to Emma and the Creative Connections Programme, coordinated by Creative Schools Ireland.
