We were really fortunate to have actress, director and writer Cristine Nelson from Belfast working in our school recently. Our school is part of the Cross Community Cross Border Project called Creative Connections. It is a Shared Island initiative and is funded by the Department of Education. Forty schools from north and south of the border were chosen to foster collaboration through the arts, supporting creativity and community connection.
The children, from infants to sixth class were working on the theme of myths and legends. With Christina, they did lots of exercises in drama and they created a range of playlets based on different legends like Fionn Mc Cumhaill and even some from Castle Leslie! Minimal props actually gave extra dimension to the story lines. The children worked extremely well in their groups and enjoyed developing, collaborating and presenting their new dramas to the attentive class audiences.
It was all about creativity and imagination after they first had eaten their ‘confidencecake’ !!!!!
Thanks to Christina who really inspired the children.
